Practice Guidelines

To help you experience optimal benefits from your GYROTONIC® lessons at the Studio, we ask that you observe the following practice guidelines.

Practice versus Perfection

You may notice we refer often to a "practice." We believe that the Movement Arts are about the practice of the art, the journey the practice takes you on, and the growth you gain from your practice. Movement Arts are NOT about perfecting anything. Think: growing in your Practice versus striving towards Perfection.

How often

GYROTONIC® exercise is a Movement Arts that can be practiced daily. We recommend two or three lessons per week in the beginning (you may add more as your body/mind adapts to your practice). We suggest focusing on one particular Movement Art in the beginning (versus practicing GYROTONIC®, Pilates, along with Yoga), as learning more than one new way of moving may be confusing for some folks.

Dedicate some time for your personal home practice (Sadhana). GYROTONIC® exercise is designed to become a personal practice (versus merely a lesson you attend weekly). Your personal practice may be five minutes each morning, or 15 minutes in the evening. The point is…it is YOUR practice. The time in between your lessons can either strengthen your practice or lengthen the time your practice will take to yield the results you want. Ask your instructor for some exercises that you can do at home (or work) to strengthen your practice. Just a small personal practice will yield huge dividends.

Eating prior to practice

It is best to avoid eating directly before your Movement lesson. However, you also want to be able to focus your undivided attention on your Movement practice and not your growling tummy. So, plan ahead. Eat a lighter meal an hour before, or a light snack. Drink plenty of water both prior and following your lesson.

Attire

Wear form fitting, comfortable clothing for all Movement Arts lessons (yoga clothes, exercise clothing), so your instructor can see your alignment and how your body is moving. Please wear bike shorts underneath loose fitting shorts.

Please bring clean feet to all Movement Arts lessons (as well as socks for all equipment-based lessons), a small towel for your personal use (especially if you sweat a lot), as well as an optional personal water bottle. The other clients will also appreciate your use of deodorant. No-slip socks are available for purchase at the Studio. We are a Toe Sox studio! Healthy feet for all!

Allergies/Perfumes and Colognes

Because some clients may suffer from environmental allergies, we request that you refrain from wearing perfume, cologne, scented hairspray, or other scented toiletries when attending sessions at the Studio.

Health Conditions

Inform the instructor of any serious health conditions such as neck, back or joint injuries, heart disease, high blood pressure, recent surgery, and pregnancy.

Female students should advise their instructor if they are having their period or if they are pregnant so that instructors may modify exercise program for the student during class.

The owners and instructors may ask to receive medical clearance from your physician prior to beginning training at the Studio. Likewise, we may also refer you to another healthcare professional if we deem that your physical condition is outside of our scope of practice.

Do not practice while under the influence of alcohol or drugs (including prescribed drugs) which may alter your ability to judge your physical capabilities.

Miscellaneous

The owners and instructors reserve the right to deny your participation in any session if your safety or the safety of others is at risk.

The owners and instructors reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.
