THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE (60 or 90 mins)   The Best for a Specific Targeted Treatment - OR - General Full Body Massage

Our Therapists are certified as Integrated Medical Massage Therapists specializing in injury and medical rehabilitation. As such, we assist each individual in regaining soft tissue and structural health and function, reduce stress, and promote mind-body awareness, rejuvenation, and revitalization. We do this with techniques from the following disciplines: Swedish massage, myofascial release, neuromuscular massage, lymphatic drainage, CranioSacral, Somatic Therapies, Reiki, and Chi Kung Healing. We work with all forms of stress and injury from whiplashes and work injuries, to chronic muscle soreness from posture or work related movements. We also believe in the simple power of touch. In our touch deprived society, many times the simple act of receiving a relaxing massage can do more than all of the fancy techniques in the world.

Allow your therapist to draw upon his or her unique training to design a session that meets your specific needs from relaxation and rejuvenation to pain relief and increased functional movement.

ONSEN STRUCTURAL MANUAL THERAPY (60 or 90 mins)   The Best Choice for Chronic Pain Relief (that lasts)!

Onsen is a Japanese word meaning at rest or at peace. It is a state of mind, but can also be a state of body. Developer Richard Phaigh translated it to mean balance, particularly length and strength balance in soft tissue, to form the basis of this new protocol.

Onsen Manual Therapy includes three key components - muscle energy technique, post-isometric relaxation, and transverse friction massage.

Muscle Energy Technique is a means of manually assessing imbalances and distortions in the skeletal system and correcting them, via the soft tissue, using a tiny amount of the patient's own energy (force) applied in a specific direction. Extremely gentle, MET provides dramatic and lasting improvements in flexibility, muscle tension and comfort.

Post-isometric relaxation works with the natural laws of the body. When a muscle has been actively contracted, the nervous system responds with an appropriate level of relaxation when the muscle relaxes.

Transverse friction massage works to break up scar tissue and adhesions that may have formed during an injury or repetitive use injury. Frictions help restore elasticity and increase blood flow to the area being worked. This helps to remove waste products, toxins, and bring in fresh nutrients, blood and oxygen to an area promoting healing.

This is Steve's specialty. Book a session today - you may just be amazed at how different your body feels and moves afterward.

~ 90 minute sessions are recommended for new clients, as well as complex "issues in the tissues."

~ 60 minute sessions are best for follow up care or for specific needs (e.g., taping, shoulder treatment).

LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE (60 mins)  The Best Choice for an Acute Condition!

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) was developed by the Danish physiotherapist Dr. Emil Vodder in the 1930s; today there are five recognized schools. MLD involves light, rhythmical massage that aids the body in collecting and moving lymphatic fluid, which plays a key role in delivering nutrients, antibodies and other immune constituents to the tissue cells of the body and removing debris such as toxins, cell waste and dead particles which are then cleansed by clusters of lymph nodes. MLD also works on the nervous system, lowering blood pressure, reducing stress and improving sleep patterns.

The tissue fluid, or prelymph, can become static due to toxic or mucus overload, a blocked lymph passageway as a result of surgery or injury, or certain congenital problems. This leads to the puffy appearance of certain parts of the body, a slow healing process, and problems such as allergies, headaches, sinusitis, low energy and frequent infections.

A condition for which MLD has proved to be particularly effective is edema (water retention) and, in its more serious form, lymphoedema - severe swelling of a limb or body part - which can lead in turn to cellulitis.

Schedule a session to speed your healing, or to experience the relaxing effects of MLD. Sessions also include an educational component so you can continue to care for your lymphatic system at home.

Laura is one of a handful of Lymphatic Therapists in Hawaii. If you've been injured or have been treated for lymphodema, you owe it to yourself to book a session. Limited availability so book early.

HAWAIIAN LOMI LOMI (60 mins)   For that Feeling of Aloha and Deep Relaxation!

The ancient art of Hawaiian Lomi Lomi has been practiced for hundreds of years.  The gift of healing was passed down to the "chosen one" who spent their life practicing the healing arts. Lomi Lomi practitioners are taught to use thumbs, hands, forearms, elbows, rhythm and breath to massage.  Lomi Lomi feels like a loving touch that instills feelings of well-being. Many clients say that they feel like the practitioner is dancing Hula on their body. Lomi Lomi also focuses on removing energetic blockages from the body so that energy (or mana) can flow freely, releasing tension, stress, and discomfort.

So, what is the difference between Lomi Lomi and any other massage?  That is a difficult question to answer.  Lomi Lomi feels like many different techniques put into one flowing system.  It has a rhythm and flow that is soothing and feels complete. It is an intuitive system, since Hawaiians didn't have anatomy books ... only their intuition.

The only way to truly know Hawaiian Lomi Lomi is to experience it.  And when you experience your first Lomi Lomi massage, you will describe the feeling as ALOHA.  That is what Lomi Lomi is all about...LOVE and ALOHA.
You'll be amazed at how relaxed you feel afterward.

This is Laura's specialty. According to Fodor's Big Island of Hawaii, 2nd Edition, "Although best paired with a yoga or Pilates session, Laura Crittendon’s lomi lomi is tough to beat." (Fodor's Big Island of Hawaii, 2nd Edition, p 173)  ~ Mahalo for the review! - L

TRADITIONAL THAI YOGA MASSAGE  (60 mins)

Thai Yoga Massage originated over 2,500 years ago in the temples of Thailand, near the borders of India. It is a dynamic bodywork therapy based on the traditions of Yoga and Ayurveda. Thai Yoga Massage treats your entire body, providing a safe and powerful vehicle for physical transformation.

With its flowing, kneading, stretching and rocking movements, Thai Yoga Massage incorporates rhythmic motion, energy line work, gentle muscle stretching and assisted yoga postures in a comprehensive healing modality creating a unique treatment that relieves muscular tension, improves circulation, boosts the immune system and balances the body energetically.

The therapeutic basis of Thai Yoga Massage is rooted in the healing tradition of Ayurveda. The word Ayurveda derives from two Sanskrit words: ayur,

top 10 Thai Massage reasons article

meaning “life” and veda, meaning “knowledge”. Thus, this “science of life” functions as a guide to the proper maintenance of a healthy life.

During the session, the Thai Yoga Therapist guides and supports the recipient through a series of yoga postures while palming and thumbing along the body’s energy lines and pressures points to release blockages in the flow of vital energy or Prana. You simply relax and breathe as you are moved into various stretches that help rejuvenate and revitalize your muscles and internal systems.

Thai Yoga Massage is often referred to as “The Lazy Person's Yoga” because you get to completely let go, relax and receive all the benefits of the yoga postures and meditation without having to do any of the work.

Thai Yoga Massage is performed on a special mat on the floor; both client and therapist are dressed in comfortable clothing that allows ease of movement and flexibility. No oils or creams are used.

Every session is custom tailored to your individual needs and can help alleviate many kinds of aches and pains. Everyone can benefit from Thai Yoga Massage regardless of age or flexibility.

Perhaps the most important element of Thai Yoga Massage is the practice of Metta – which is an intention of energy and a meditation of loving kindness and compassion. Treating yourself to a Thai Yoga session is one of the best things you can do for your body, mind and spirit.

60 sessions available regularly. 90 minute and 120 minute sessions are available via inquiry with the studio.

TRADITIONAL BALINESE MASSAGE  (75 mins)   $90

Human beings are designed for touch. It is certainly the most personally experienced of all sensations. And the Balinese people understand this better than most. Low-touch Western society keeps tactile expression behind closed doors, while in Bali they touch all the time: walking hand in hand and arm in arm, and stroking each other as a way of life.

It's interesting that our Western culture, that has put so much faith in science for cures and in medical practitioners for answers, is now turning, disillusioned, to touch therapies.

Balinese massage (along with all of our massage, body treatments, and Ayurvedic offerings) puts touch back into your system.

This traditional massage from Bali combines authentic techniques from Bali and Java with elements of Ayurveda and European massage. We begin with our signature JAMU ritual foot cleansing and continue with a medium to firm pressure massage, with and without oil, using our aromatic JAMU organic products. A treatment that is both deeply relaxing and invigorating.

REJUVENATING BALINESE JOURNEY (105 mins)   $120           coming soon!Balinese Massage is a recipe for Pure Bliss

This therapeutic body treatment begins with our signature JAMU ritual foot cleansing and aromatic Traditional Balinese Massage, followed by a JAMU organic full body exfoliation in your choice of aroma. Detoxifying and Rejuvenating for mind, body and spirit.

JAVANESE LULUR: ROYAL SPA RITUAL  (120 mins)   $160           coming soon!

The Javanese Lulur Ritual is an ancient beauty treatment, which originated in the 17th century palaces of Java as a "purifying" ritual for Javanese princesses as they prepared for their wedding day. It was in Java, that many secrets of health and beauty, utilizing the naturally occurring herbs, spices, foods, clays and minerals were created and used for the benefit of the royal family.

The Mandi Lulur or "royal wedding" treatment, is traditionally given to women each day for 40 days preceding their wedding, to soften and sweeten their skin and prepare them for this most important of days.

The Royal Spa Ritual begins with a ritual foot cleansing followed with a one hour Balinese massage. Next, the entire body is painted with the light brown aromatic paste (the traditional Javanese Lulur). The paste is made fresh from a blend of finely ground rice, turmeric, and sandalwood ground together in a mortar and pestle. A little water is then added and a few drops of Jasmine Lulur scrub is heavenlyoil to form a granular paste. Once the paste has been applied and dries, it is gently rubbed off to exfoliate and polish the skin and is used to slough away deed skin cells, bringing forth fresh, new skin. The remaining paste is removed with warm towels.

A fresh natural yogurt is then splashed and lightly rubbed all over the body. The yogurt's enzymes stimulate the cell activity and restore the pH balance of the skin, which feels as soft as silk after the yogurt is washed away. The final and most wonderful step is to relax in a warm aromatic flower petal bath. Thoughts of royal princesses and fragrant gardens fill your mind as you float away on a fragrant cloud of bliss.

Your skin will be left soft, supple and shining. The Javanese Lulur Ritual is truly a delicious indulgence.
