What is GYROKINESIS®?
The Art of Exercising and Beyond®

GYROKINESIS® methodology, also known as Yoga in Motion, is the heart and soul of the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM®. It utilizes the same principles as GYROTONIC®, but does so without the use of equipment. It is similar to a yoga class as it is taught in a group setting. And similar to Vinyasa Yoga, which links poses dynamically using the breath, GYROKINESIS® exercises move in a fluid manner allowing you to move your spine and body in different ways, offering the same benefits as Yoga, Tai Chi, and swimming. Imagine a movement class that is so seamless, so pleasant and effortless that all you need to do is show up. You are dynamically guided through seated, lying and standing movements that systematically and gently work your entire body including all joints and muscles through rhythmical and undulating movements. Before you know it, your spine is supple, your joints resilient, your muscles powerful, your mind relaxed and you are reconnected with spirit. Decompress your joints, shape your muscles and stimulate your organs by means of this amazing rhythmic, harmonious method that will leave you feeling refreshed and energized. Fluidity is the key. Rather that traditional static yoga postures, GYROKINESIS® is Yoga in Motion with undulating and spiraling movements smoothly and harmoniously connected through the use of breath. Thus GYROKINESIS® movements appear and feel more like dance than traditional yoga...and they feel great! Classes begin sitting on a stool, gathering our energies and finding focus. After a movement series to stimulate the energetic centers of the body and open them for energy flow, we begin spinal motions. Spinal motions stimulate the entire biological system and do wonders for the spine, joints, muscles, and bones. From there we move to standing work, and then to floor work for strengthening, building endurance and continued opening. We finish standing for integration, energetic connection, balance, and symmetry.

GYROKINESIS® (formerly known at Yoga for Dancers) was developed in the mid 1980’s by Juliu Horvath, a Hungarian raised in
along with a dance career ending injury, Juliu spent many years in self-exploration and study of Yoga, acupuncture, and meditation. These experiences not only led him to true healing, but he was also inspired to create a movement system that offers the same benefits as yoga, dance, gymnastics, swimming and tai chi, but is not derived from these other modalities. Some of the hallmarks of GYROKINESIS® exercises are the fluidity of the movements and the ease with which one can perform them.
GYROKINESIS® exercises allow one to work on the entire body through seven natural elements of spinal movement: forward, backward, left side, right side, left twist, right twist and circular, as well as all other joint articulations.
This approach systematically and gently works the joints and muscles through rhythmic and undulating movement. These movements stimulate the body's internal organs while different corresponding breathing patterns are integrated along with the movements.
Those who practice
GYROKINESIS® exercises tend to be more relaxed in their daily lives and can move with increased flexibility and ease. Try a class. Your mind, body and spirit will thank you!
